THE COTTAGE / OUTSIDE
Set in an elevated position on the side of the fell at the end of a very narrow track, Stone Cottage has no passing traffic, except for those accessing the four neighbouring properties. The enclosed sunny front garden has fabulous views across the valley floor to the fells beyond. It has a patio with teak garden furniture – perfect for a peaceful breakfast or dinner under the stars. At the back of the house is a walled area of natural woodland which is full of snowdrops, bluebells and daffodils in the spring. Cross the small stream, wander through the steeply sloping garden up to the rear gate to explore the open fell and towering crags. For those who love wildlife, the area is home to red squirrels, red deer and badgers plus a fabulous variety of wild birds.
Deepdale is the name of the valley which runs from the track outside the cottage . The path flows the course of the pretty tumbling Deepdale Beck, leading the intrepid to the ridge between Fairfield and St. Sunday Crag. In the opposite direction is a path to Patterdale just one mile away where the local shop and nearest pub are situated.
